The PCP WISE project had the pleasure of participating in the 4èmes Rencontres du Spatial en Région Sud, held in Cannes – a major regional gathering showcasing how space technologies can serve public needs and help build territorial resilience.

This event brought together regional space industry leaders, institutional representatives, public authorities, innovators, and end-users to discuss concrete applications of satellite-based solutions for environmental risk management and public service efficiency.

Space Technologies Serving Public Needs

Throughout the day, speakers presented forward-looking perspectives on how satellite services are transforming:

  • wildfire risk prevention
  • flood-risk monitoring
  • agricultural water management
  • IoT-based environmental alerting and response

These domains are closely aligned with the ambition of PCP WISE, which aims to reinforce the capacity of European public buyers to anticipate, manage, and respond to climate-driven risks through innovative procurement and advanced technological solutions.

Demonstrations from the Région Sud

We were particularly interested in the region’s live demonstrations of:

  • FireWatch – Satellite-based services for forest fire prevention
  • FloodCare – Real-time flood monitoring capabilities
  • Irrigated Agriculture Observation (IAGO) – Mapping and optimisation of irrigated agricultural areas
  • Satellite IoT for France 2030 – Applications for environmental monitoring and rapid alerting

These initiatives clearly illustrate the growing maturity of satellite-enabled services and their potential impact on local and regional resilience strategies.

PCP WISE remains committed to advancing innovation-driven procurement for climate resilience in collaboration with European public authorities and solution providers. Events such as the Rencontres du Spatial play a crucial role in building the common understanding, vision, and partnerships necessary to address future environmental challenges.
