June 4 marked a significant step forward in securing water for people, the economy and the environment with the launch of the European Water Resilience Strategy. This comprehensive strategy aims to restore and protect the water cycle, ensuring clean and affordable water for all while fostering a sustainable, resilient, smart, and competitive water economy in Europe.
🌍 Key Objectives of the Strategy:
🔹Restore and Protect the Water Cycle: By effectively implementing existing EU water legislation, focusing on both water quantity and quality, and improving water retention on land.
🔹Build a Water-Smart Economy: Boosting competitiveness and innovation in the water sector, improving water efficiency, and modernising infrastructure to reduce leaks and attract investments.
🔹Secure Clean and Affordable Water: Promoting water-saving practices among consumers and businesses and ensuring access to water and sanitation for all.
🌱 Flagship Actions:
🔹Governance and Implementation: Accelerating the implementation of EU water laws through structured dialogues and best practice exchanges.
🔹Investments: Mobilising public and private investments, with over €15 billion planned for 2025-2027.
🔹Digitalisation and AI: Leveraging digital solutions and AI for better water management.
🔹Research and Innovation: Strengthening the water sector through investment in R&I and skills.
🔹Security and Preparedness: Enhancing early warning systems for floods and droughts.
