As part of a strategic series of five in-person workshops across Europe, PCP WISE made a meaningful stop in Helsinki to engage with local stakeholders on climate and water-related challenges.
📍 Hosted by Forum Virium Helsinki, Finland—where pioneering work is underway to build digital twins of the country’s river basins—the visit highlighted both innovation and pressing challenges in climate services:
🔹 Digital Twins in Action: Finland’s efforts to model all river basins with high precision offer a strong foundation for proactive water management.
🔹 Data Abundance vs. Usability: While vast datasets exist, decision-makers still face challenges in transforming them into actionable model outputs.
🔹 Open Data & Security: Stakeholders raised critical questions about balancing open knowledge sharing with national infrastructure security.
🔹 End-User Focus: Validating our User Storylines during the workshop deepened understanding of local pain points, which will feed directly into our PCP tender requirements.
🔹 Creative Prototyping: A hands-on session gave stakeholders the chance to design their ideal climate service solutions—on paper, but grounded in real needs.
💬 These visits are key to aligning PCP WISE’s innovation pathway with real-world demands from urban and rural buyers. The outcomes will directly inform both the digitalisation mapping and the evolution of technical specifications for future procurement.
🙏 Thank you to Meri Vainio (Forum Virium Helsinki), Antonia Matthies, Stefka Domuzova, Thanh-Tâm Le (Climate KIC) and Amira Ahmed (Twente University) for facilitating such a productive and insightful visit, and to all participants for the fruitful discussions.
📢 Stay tuned as we share more stories from the field—and as the next site visit takes us to Lemvig, Denmark, where Klimatorium will host the next stakeholder workshop on June 26.
